Utwór Debussy'ego powstał w 1913 roku jako muzyka do dramatu Gabriela Mourey'a "Psyche". Wykonywany był w III akcie sztuki, w momencie gdy pojawia się wątek nieodwzajemnionej miłości bożka Pana do nimfy Syrinx. Według mitologii greckiej uciekająca przed swym natrętnym wielbicielem nimfa przemieniona została w trzcinę, z kawałków której powstał flet o cudownym brzmieniu. Pan, grając na nim, koił swoją miłosną tęsknotę. Pierwszym wykonawcą utworu był francuski flecista Louis Fleury (1878-1926).

"Definitely Maybe" okazał się najszybciej sprzedającą płytą w historii brytyjskiej fonografii. Zadebiutował na pierwszym miejscu zestawień i rozpoczął masową histerię na punkcie zespołu. Britpop, bo do takiego nurtu przypisali formację dziennikarze, zaczął święcić wielkie triumfy. Z sukcesami przyszły skandale, kontrowersje, walki (dosłownie) między braćmi, odejścia i powroty Noela Gallaghera, kłopoty w życiu prywatnym.
