Kolejnym po Allegro de Sonate, wspólnym dziełem braci Henryka i Józefa Wieniawskich jest Grand Duo Polonais, zadedykowane Stanisławowi Moniuszce. Utwór powstał około 1851 roku, podczas wielkiego rosyjskiego tournee dwójki młodych artystów. Fantazja oparta jest na dwóch pieśniach twórcy polskiej opery narodowej - dumce Kozak oraz jednej z najbardziej przejmujących pieśni moniuszkowskich - Maciek. W Finale wykorzystane zostały motywy Poloneza G-dur z popularnej swego czasu rosyjskiej opery Mogiła Askolda Aleksandra Wierstowskiego. Konstrukcja całości jest raczej luźna, a poszczególne ogniwa łączą ze sobą wirtuozowskie kadencje skrzypiec lub fortepianu. Obydwie partie instrumentów potraktowane są równorzędnie, stawiając zarówno przed skrzypkiem, jak i pianistą wysokie wymagania techniczne. Grand Duo Polonais było kompozycją, którą bracia Wieniawscy porywali publiczność w wielu krajach. Wielokrotnie musieli je powtarzać, ulegając żądaniom rozentuzjazmowanych słuchaczy. Dzisiaj utwór ten poszedł niemal zupełnie w zapomnienie - może dlatego, że mało kto potrafi je zagrać tak, jak grali go kongenialni bracia. [A. Cofalik] Allegro de Sonate was followed by Grand Duo Polonais, another joint work by Henryk (Op. 8) and Józef (Op. 5) Wieniawski. Dedicated to Stanisław Moniuszko, the piece was composed c. 1851, during the grand Russian tour of the two young artists. The fantasy is based on two songs by the creator of the Polish national opera - the dumky Cossack and one of Moniuszko's most moving songs - Maciek. Motives from Alesky Wierstowski's Polonaise in G major from the then popular Russian opera Askold's Grave were used in the Finale. The construction of the whole is rather loose and the individual sections are linked with virtuosic cadenzas for violin or piano. The parts for both instruments are treated in a similar way, making high technical demands on both the violinist and the pianist. Grand Duo Polonais was a composition with which the Wieniawski brothers thrilled audiences of many countries. They had to repeat it many times, yielding to the demands of enthusiastic listeners, as was the case during concerts at the Wielki Theatre in Warsaw as well as Poznań and Cracow, among other places. Oratorium "Mesjasz" Händla powstało w 1741 roku. Dzieło składa się z trzech części: cz. 1 - zapowiedź przyjścia Mesjasza; cz. 2 - opowieść o życiu, śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Mesjasza; cz. 3 - misja zbawienia ludzkości. Oratorium to Händel skomponował w przeciągu dwóch tygodni w podziękowaniu dla Irlandczyków za ich gościnę. Kompozycja została bardzo dobrze przyjęta przez publiczność i zaliczana jest obecnie do najdoskonalszych utworów na przełomie wieków. W prezentowanym wydaniu zawarto oratorium Händla w opracowaniu na solowe głosy wokalne, chór mieszany (SATB) oraz fortepian (wyciąg fortepianowy partii orkiestry). The vocal score of this edition first appeard in 1959, followed in 1965 by the full score, subsequently issued in redeuced format as a 'study score'. Also in 1965 a related work, A Textual and Historical Companion to Handel's Messiah by the present editor was published. This includes extensive discussion of the principal manuscripts together with details of numerous secondary manusctript sources and the earliest pronted editions and a discussion of textual authority. Toccata primarily means a touch piece, usually associated with rapid touch of the keys. The framework of this toccata is from the 16th century, and is in the standard 5-part form, but slightly modified. The opening is the Toccata up to the Melodic part (harpsichord and recorder), followed by an Episode of quickly changing scenes, then back to the Melodic section, and ending with the Toccata. John Cage (1912 - 1992) to awangardowy kompozytor amerykański, który jako pierwszy zastosował fortepian preparowany. Komponował on utwory oparte o aleatoryczne działania losowe. Jako jeden z pierwszych kompozytorów zaczął również stosować notację graficzną, oraz wprowadzać do swoich utworów elementy teatralne. Utwór "Music walk" na jednego lub kilku pianistów, radio i (lub) taśmę, Cage skomponował w 1958 roku. Partytura kompozycji składa się z przezroczystej, plastikowej kartki, na której umieszczone jest pięć linii oraz graficzne układy kresek. Zawiera również osiem stron notacji graficznej w postaci szeregu nierównomiernie rozmieszczonych kropek. Plastikowa kartka ma pełnić rolę liniuszka, który nakładany na pozostałe strony tworzy pełny zapis graficzny. Interpretacja tego zapisu zależy wyłącznie od wykonawcy (wykonawców). Grafika może sugerować wysokości dźwięków, użycie strun fortepianu, preparację instrumentu, czy wydobywanie innych odgłosów (Cage wskazuje, by wykonawcy również śpiewali oraz użyli dowolnych dźwięków radia lub taśmy). Tytuł kompozycji - "Music Walk" odnosi się m. in. do faktu, że wykonawcy podczas gry powinni się przemieszczać. Prezentowana publikacja zawiera utwór "Complexi sonori" Wassila Kasandjieva na orkiestrę smyczkową. Dzieło to powstało w 1971 roku. Partytura kompozycji "Complexi sonori" złożona jest z dwudziestu odcinków muzycznych, których kolejność oraz czas trwania ustala dyrygent. Całość powinna zamknąć się jednak w ok. 8 - 9 minutach. Każdy z wykonawców w orkiestrze może w dowolnym fragmencie rozpocząć improwizację. Poszczególne odcinki charakteryzują się odmiennym charakterem, na co przede wszystkim wpływa zastosowana artykulacja, np. odcinek nr 4 złożony jest z licznych flażoletów, w nr 5 dominują glissanda, nr 7 grany jest sul ponticello, a w nr 11 znajdują się same tremolanda i tryle. The conductor is to indicate the number of each pattern to played. One of the versions possible is given in the scheme accompanying the score and is merely to serve as a rough guide to the conductor; (it is not necessary to adhere to this example note for note). The length of each individual section is determined by the conductor; the entire performance should, however, not exceed 8-9 minutes. Christian Wolff (ur. 1934) to amerykański kompozytor współczesnej muzyki eksperymentalnej. W wielu swoich utworach stosuje on fragmenty improwizowane, uzależnione od inwencji wykonawców. "Exercise 21" Wolffa to kompozycja na fortepian - cztery ręce. Pierwszy pianista ma wykonywać górną pięciolinię (w kluczu wiolinowym), natomiast drugi pianista - plan dolny (w kluczu basowym). Tempo utworu jest dowolne, jednak ma ono "płynąć" (ćwierćnuta = ok. 80). Materiał dźwiękowy "Exercise 21" Wolff zaczerpnął z pieśni "Oh Freedom" ("Och wolność") śpiewanej przez czarnoskórych, biorących udział w wojnie w USA. First player reads top (treble) stave, second reads lower (bass). Tempo can be variable, but generally "flowing" (quarter = ca. 80). Sections between double bars on pages 1-3: any one or more can be repeated (but need not be). On pages 3-4: short, angled lines between staves mark coordination between players (pick up where the other left off); tempo can be fluid; wedges indicate free breaks: play what is in between any time between coordinations. Page 4, last two systems: repeated chords are in free tempo, each continuing directly to the next, through the eight notes in between which are also in free tempo.
