Publikacja "Melodic Index to the Works of J.S. Bach" zawiera 3872 melodie pochodzące ze wszystkich dzieł Jana Sebastiana Bacha. Są to wyłącznie melodie z początków danych dzieł (incypity). Książka złożona jest z dwóch części. W części pierwszej - "Finding charts", autor zamieścił tabele ze schematami melodycznymi, jakie można odnaleźć w dziełach Bacha. Są to czterodźwiękowe (trzyinterwałowe) melodie, z których każda posiada oddzielny numer. Część druga książki zawiera właściwe melodie (tematy) z tytułami i numerami katalogowymi BWV, oznaczone daną cyfrą schematu melodycznego (podanego w części pierwszej).
