(...)Ozzy niezadowolony z bardzo niskich zarobków, postanowił zostać drobnym złodziejem. Włamywał się i kradł z niewielkich sklepów odzieżowych i prywatnych domów, jednakże prawie za każdym razem łapała go policja, ponieważ nosił rękawiczki z wyciętym materiałem na czubkach palców, przez co wszędzie zostawiał swoje odciski. Najdłużej spędził w więzieniu sześć tygodni (w roku 1967) za włamanie do prywatnego mieszkania. Właśnie wtedy samodzielnie wytatuował sobie słynny napis "Ozzy" nad kostkami palców, napis "thanks" na dłoni oraz uśmiechniętą twarz :-) na obu kolanach, aby "od rana mieć dobry humor". Po wyjściu z więzienia Ozzy postanowił nigdy więcej się tam nie znaleźć i zaprzestał kradzieży. W tym czasie najpopularniejszym zespołem byli Beatlesi, to właśnie pod wpływem ich twórczości Ozzi zadecydował, że zostanie muzykiem (...).

Dzieciństwo i młodość spędził w Chicago. W 1937 roku zaczął występować w klubach jazzowych w Los_Angeles. W 1939 roku założył Trio King Cole (wraz z Oscarem Moorem i Wesleyem Princem). Z czasem jego związki z jazzem uległy rozluźnieniu, a on przeszedł do historii przede wszystkim jako wokalista śpiewający muzykę "łatwą i przyjemną".
