The solos in this book have been found to be especially well suited for players who have not played guitar solos before. They are printed in approximate order of difficulty, the easier pieces first, the harder pieces later. Study Notes have been added after each piece, giving the kind of help that a teacher might give in a lesson. In some cases, two versions of a solo have been printed, showing different ways of playing it. Small exercises have been added to help with certain problems.

Felix Hortezky (born 1796) was a reamrkable Polish composer, Giuliani's student, guitar virtuoso and teacher. He composed a number of concert pieces, as well as instructive and amusement ones (like presented divertimentos). It was an answer to growing popularity that guitar was gaining in noble and middle classes in the first half of 19th century.

He composed a number of concert pieces (fantasias, variations, serenades, polonaises), instructive (exercises, gamuts, scales, cadenzas) and amusement (divertimentos, amusemens). He wrote around 150 pieces in total.

Josef Wanczura, Czech guitarist, pianist and composer of the first half of 19th century. He settled in Vienna in ca 1830, where he worked as guitar and piano teacher. Wanczura composed about 50 pieces for guitar (polonaises, walzes, marches, variations and transcriptions of the popular airs from operas). All his guitar compositions were published by Diabelli & Co. in Vienna from 1830 to 1835.
