Augusta Read Thomas (ur w 1964 w Nowym Jorku), od 1997 roku współpracuje z Orkiestrą Symfonii Chicago (1997-2006). Studiowała na Northwestern Uniwersytet, Yale Uniwersytet i na Królewskiej Akademii Muzycznej. Publikacja zawiera dwie miniatury na organy i trąbkę C. W zestawie jest też partia dla instrumentów w stroju Bb, zatem z powodzeniem utwory mogą byc wykonane na trąbce Bb. Ambitusy określone są dla trąbki C. W publikacji jest adnotacja, że utwór może byc wykonywany na fletcie, oboju, klarnecie, skrzypcach, altówce, saksofonie sopranowym i przez głos wokalny sopran. Generalnie przez każdy instrument, którego skala na to pozwala.

This work was commissioned by the American Guild of Organists and was given its first perfotmance during their annual conference on 3 July 2006, Valparaiso University Chapel of the Resurrection Valparaiso, Indiana. This work was composed with the idea that it might be used in all kinds of liturgical settings. The two movements may be performed separately or together. In place of the trumpet part, flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, soprano saxophone in B flat, violin, viola, or soprano vocalise may be substituted. Parts in C and B flat are provided.

While many extant photos of string band artists show members holding a mandolin, it often can barely be heard in most period recordings because the most important instrument to capture was usually the fiddle or voice. This collection provides you with the opportunity to learn over 70 old-time-music period songs recorded mostly by Ernest Stoneman, or the duo Grayson & Whitter, during the 1920s and early 1930s. Many of these songs were also covered by other string bands regardless of whether they had the opportunity or not to be commercially recorded. CD tracks of some of the songs in this collection as recorded by a number of different string band artists are provided so that performances can be compared.
