Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to australijska grupa muzyczna powstała w 1984 roku, wykonująca muzykę rockową. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera utwory z 13-ego albumu studyjnego wydanego 20 września 2004 roku. Jest to podwójny album, zawierający 17 utworów (9 na "Abattoir Blues" oraz 8 na "The Lyre of Orpheus"). Wybór największych oratoriów zaaranżowanych na głos wokalny sopranowy i fortepian. Mesjasz to największe dzieło Georgea Friedricha Händela. Premiera tego dzieła miała miejsce w kwietniu 1742 roku w Dublinie z udziałem Grzegorza II - króla Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii. Podobno w trakcie wykonania słynnego "Alleluja", król Grzegorz z wrażenia wstał ze swojego miejsca. Ówczesna etykieta nakazywała by reszta widowni również wstała w obecności stojącego króla. Tak narodziła się trwająca około 200 lat tradycja, zgodnie z którą publiczność wstaje właśnie w tym momencie.

Oratorium "Mesjasz" Händla powstało w 1741 roku. Dzieło składa się z trzech części: cz. 1 - zapowiedź przyjścia Mesjasza; cz. 2 - opowieść o życiu, śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Mesjasza; cz. 3 - misja zbawienia ludzkości. Oratorium to Händel skomponował w przeciągu dwóch tygodni w podziękowaniu dla Irlandczyków za ich gościnę. Kompozycja została bardzo dobrze przyjęta przez publiczność i zaliczana jest obecnie do najdoskonalszych utworów na przełomie wieków. W prezentowanym wydaniu zawarto oratorium Händla w opracowaniu na solowe głosy wokalne, chór mieszany (SATB) oraz fortepian (wyciąg fortepianowy partii orkiestry).

The Maccabaean Revolt in the second century B.C. provided the background to the story that unfolds in Judas Maccabaeus. It is part of the history of the Ptolemaic and Seleucid Empires. This oratorio follows the story from the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. up until Judas' march on Jerusalem in 164 B.C. With a libretto supplied by Thomas Morell, Handel's great work was first performed at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, on April the 1st, 1747, as part of his annual Lenten season of oratorios. By the time of Handel's death in 1759, Judas Maccabaeus had become the composer's second most popular oratorio, having received 33 London performances under the composer's supervision (Messiah had 36).
