Johann Joachim Quanz (1697 - 1773) was extremely productive composer who particulary contrubuted to the fund of the flute music. Besides the numerous works of chamber music with flute and some double concertos, 189 solo concertos of him have been handed down. About 120 of them were composed in Dresden, - Quanz was a member of the royal court musicians till 1741 -, but all the others appeard in Potsdam during his activity as a flute teacher and composer of chamber music at court of Frederick II. The concerto for flute, basson (ad lib.), strings and basso continuo G-dur, here presented as the first edition, appeard in 1769 as one of the few flute concertos which are supplemented by a second solo instrument in the slow movement.

In the early part of the year 1754 Innozenz Danzi (c. 1730 - 1798) took up an appointment in the Mannheim orchestra - at almost the same time as Johann Anton Fils - as succesor to the solo cellist Carlo Perroni. Although Fils, who was about the same age as Danzi and who shared the same desk, was destined to enjoy only six years of artistic activity here before his tragic death, he neverless claimed tha interest of his contemporaries. On the other hand, there are no contemporary accounts at all of the work or compositions of Danzi. Schubart mentions only the fact that, together with the violinist Carl Joseph and Johann Baptist Toeschi, he was required to assist in chamber music with the Elector, who played the flute. The present concerto by Danzi certainly composed before 1760 is influenced in grat measure by Stamitz.

Franciszek Liszt (1811 - 1866) był kompozytorem i pianistą węgierskim epoki romantyzmu. Koncert A-dur jest jedną z wielu wspaniałych kompozycji powstałych w czasach, kiedy Liszt osiadł w Weimerze. W koncercie A-dur nr 2 przejawia się upowszechniona przez Liszta romantyczna wirtuozeria. Utwór jest ''mieszanką'' impresjonistycznego stylu, neoromantyzmu i ekspresjonizmu. Wymaga od wykonawcy wirtuozowskich umiejętności.

As in generally known, Haydn's authorship of this concerto for oboe cannot actualy be verified. Is it mainly on account of the concinnity displayed in the second movement that the question arises at all of attributing the work to Haydn, especially in the absence of any reference to another composer to whom it might possibly be ascribed. Even then, it can only have been one of Haydn's early woks as may be concluded from certain shortcomings that occur here to there. On examining the two scores preserved in manuscript from in the libraries of Dresden and Vienna, one encounters numerous cases of tonal and harmonic maladroitness, tatuphony in the oboe part, and dragging passages in the tutti section.

The present edition is the first one to assemble the works for two harpsichords, which Bach contributed to this special genre of keyboard music. They are offered in a text that has been revised according to the original sources.
The Concerto a due Cembali (BWV 1061a) is generally known as Concerto in C Major for two harpsichords, strings, and basso continuo (BWV 1061). As such it is transmitted in several secondary sources of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Only the manuscript set of parts Mus. ms. Bach St. 139 of the Staatsbibliothek Preußischer Kulturbesitz Berlin (West) preserves with its harpsichord solo parts an original source; the ripieno parts belonging to it are a later supplement and stem from the time after bach's death.

Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778 - 1837), who early in his career became well-known in Vienna as a brilliant pianist, studied with Mozart, Albrechtsberger, Salieri and Haydn and soon earned a high reputation as a composer. His further career led him to Eisenstadt as conductor of the Esterházy orchestra (1804 - 11), to Vienna for a five-year sojourn as a music teacher, to Stuttgart in 1816 as a court conductor, and fonally from 1819 to Weimar, where he was court conductor to the Grand Duke. The present Trumpet Concerto dates from a quite early period in Hummel's ouvre. It was written in 1803 and performed the following year to mark his entrance in the Esterházy court orchestra. In its three-movement design, its formal layout and its melodic and harmonic workmanschip, the work still lies fully within the bounds of the classical tradition.

Concerto in E major for Trumpet and Orchestra (Hummel Johann Nepomuk)

The D-major Piano Concerto, K. 175, was written in Salzburg in Decemcer 1773. It is thus Mozart's very first instrumental concerto, whether for piano or any other instrument (his first violin concerto, K. 207, was not composed until 1775). Up to that time Mozart, then not yet eighteen years of age, had only made concerto arrangements of works by other composers, including three concertos based on sonatas by Johann Christian Bach. In many respects K. 175 reveals the composer's valuating ambitions, particulary in the virtuoso writing for the piano, its large-scale design, and the splendid colours obtained by adding horns and trumpets. The autograph score of K. 175, extant as late as 1860, has long been lost. For this edition a reliable substitute source has been consulted.

The Concerto for Three Pianos in f major, K. 242, was composed in February of 1776. Mozart wrote the work for Countess Antonia Maria Lodron and her two daughters, Maria Aloisia and Maria Josepha. Mozart later reworked the piece for performance with two pianos. Our edition presents both versions of the concerto, "a tre" and "a due".

Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major (KV 246), dated April 1776 and written for Coutess Lützow, was composed immediately after the concertos in B-flat major (KV 238) and F-major (KV 242) of that same spring. Mozart wrote the this piece for Countess Lodron and her two daughters, KV 246 falls under the heading of dilettante concerto. Composer is known to have performed the work himself in Munich on October 1777.The present edition has been revised on the basis of the autograph score formely located in the holdings of the Prussian State Library in Berlin but now in Bibloteka Jagiellońska in Crocow. Original cadenzas for this concerto exist in three versions.The solo piano part is identical in all respects to the text of the original sources. Orchetral accompaniament (Piano II) has been made as consisted as possibile with the original score as regards dynamics and articulation.

Mozart's Piano Concerto in E-flat major (K 271), dated January 1777, is his last and most mature work in this genre written during his years in Salzburg. Composed considerably later than its three precessors K 175, 238 and 246, it forms a pinnacle in the output of the twenty-one-year-old composer. With this work Mozart attained an individual style of writing which had repercussions on his instrumental music as a whole. Its unusual formal design is no less extraordinary than the demands it places on the soloist. The present edition has been revised on the basis of the autograph score formely located in the holdings of the Prussian State Library in Berlin but now in Bilioteka Jagiellońska in Crocow.

The Concerto for Two Pianos in E-flet major, K. 365 (316a), though undated, must have been written in the period immediately following the great Mannheim - Paris journey, i. e. early in 1779. It is thus closely associated with two other double concertos: the fragmentary Concerto for Violin and Piano in D major, K. Anh. 56 (November 1778), and the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364 (summer of 1779). As Mozart's only concerto originally conceived for two pianos, it forms a mature counterpart to the Concerto in F major for Three Pianos, K. 242, the arrangement of which for two pianos was probably directly connected with K. 365 and likewise intended primarily for Mozart and his sister. In its treatment of the orchestra, K. 365 goes beyond all previous concertos both in its initial emplyment of an independent bassoon part and the largely obligato hadling of the oboes and French horns.

Mozart's Piano Concerto in E-flat major, KV 449, was completed on 9 February 1784 and was the first item entered in his recently begun autograph catalogue of works. Like the erliest piano concertos from his Vienna years, it was written without obligato wind instruments. The present edition has been revised on the basis of the autograph score formely located in the holdings of the Prussian State Library in Berlin but now in Bibloteka Jagiellońska in Crocow. An original cadenza has survived in autograph. The solo piano part is identical in all respects to the text of the original sources. Orchetral accompaniament (Piano II) has been made as consisted as possibile with the original score as regards dynamics and articulation.

17 koncertów fortepianowych Wolfganga Amadeusza Mozarta zalicza się do utworów szczytowych w jego twórczości fortepianowej. Mozart nadał koncertom swobodną budowę, pomagając solowemu instrumentowi (fortepian) w pełni wykorzystać możliwości techniczne. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera Koncert D-dur na fortepian i orkiestrę, w opracowaniu na dwa fortepiany (jeden fortepian wykonuje solową partię, drugi gra partię orkiestry). Utwór ten zaliczany jest do najokazalszych, "symfonicznych" koncertów fortepianowych Mozarta. Koncert posiada klasyczną budowę trzyczęściową: I - Allegro, II - Andante, III - Rondo z tanecznym tematem.

The Piano Concerto in Bb major (KV 456) was composed in 1784 and was entered into Mozart's personal catalog of works on September 30th. Although there is no concrete proof, it appears that Mozart wrote the concerto on commission from the blind pianist Marie Theresia of Paradise. The present edition was edited in accordance with the autogrph score in State Library of the Prussian Cultural Estate, Berlin, and in comparison with a copy made in Mozart's intermediate circle as well as with the first printing. The solo piano part corresponds in every detail to the text in the original sources. The piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniament (Piano II) was adopted to the dynamics and articulation of the original score as far as possible.

The F major Piano concerto (KV 459) was entered into Mozart's personal catalog of works on the 11th of December, 1784. There is a small discrepancy with the original score where Mozart also listed 2 clarini and timpani in the instrumentation. It is possible, however, if an oversight wasn't involved, that he listed these instrumetns on another sheet of paper which was later lost. The present edition was edited in accordance with the autograph scoer in the State Library of the Prussian Cultural Estate, Berlin and in comparison withe the first prining. The solo piano part is identical in all respects to the text of the original sources. Orchetral accompaniament (Piano II) has been made as consisted as possibile with the original score as regards dynamics and articulation.

Mozart wrote the Piano Cocerto in E-flat major for his subscription concerts in the 1786 Lenten season. This work was performed before that time, probably at a concert in Vienna in the 1785. Its the first piano concerto whitch Mozart scored for clarinets. The present edition was compiled on the basis of the autograph score located in the Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kultubesitz in Berlin. No original cadenzas have survived. The solo piano part is identical in every respect with the text given in the sources. The piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniament (Piano II) has been adapted as far as possible to conform to the dynamics and articulation of the original score.
