Konzert Es

Mozart's concertos for solo wind instruments include three complete works for French horn (K 417, 447 and 495), two for flute (K 313 and 314), and one each for bassoon (K 191), clarinet (K 622) and oboe (K 314).

The usual familiar cadenzas to Mozart's piano concertos are by no means entirely satisfactory. The original cadenzas written by the composer did not take full advantage of the possibilities of the instrument as they were intended for his pupils rather than himself. The other cadenzas are not in the correct Mozart style. The present work contains valuable old cadenzas that are pianistically grateful and fully in accord with the style of Mozart's originals.

The Concerto for Two Pianos in E-flet major, K. 365 (316a), though undated, must have been written in the period immediately following the great Mannheim - Paris journey, i. e. early in 1779. It is thus closely associated with two other double concertos: the fragmentary Concerto for Violin and Piano in D major, K. Anh. 56 (November 1778), and the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K. 364 (summer of 1779). As Mozart's only concerto originally conceived for two pianos, it forms a mature counterpart to the Concerto in F major for Three Pianos, K. 242, the arrangement of which for two pianos was probably directly connected with K. 365 and likewise intended primarily for Mozart and his sister. In its treatment of the orchestra, K. 365 goes beyond all previous concertos both in its initial emplyment of an independent bassoon part and the largely obligato hadling of the oboes and French horns.

Mozart's Piano Concerto in E-flat major, KV 449, was completed on 9 February 1784 and was the first item entered in his recently begun autograph catalogue of works. Like the erliest piano concertos from his Vienna years, it was written without obligato wind instruments. The present edition has been revised on the basis of the autograph score formely located in the holdings of the Prussian State Library in Berlin but now in Bibloteka Jagiellońska in Crocow. An original cadenza has survived in autograph. The solo piano part is identical in all respects to the text of the original sources. Orchetral accompaniament (Piano II) has been made as consisted as possibile with the original score as regards dynamics and articulation.

Piano Concerto in E flat KV 449 nr 14 (Mozart Wolfgang Amadeus)

Mozart wrote the Piano Cocerto in E-flat major for his subscription concerts in the 1786 Lenten season. This work was performed before that time, probably at a concert in Vienna in the 1785. Its the first piano concerto whitch Mozart scored for clarinets. The present edition was compiled on the basis of the autograph score located in the Staatsbibliothek Preussischer Kultubesitz in Berlin. No original cadenzas have survived. The solo piano part is identical in every respect with the text given in the sources. The piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniament (Piano II) has been adapted as far as possible to conform to the dynamics and articulation of the original score.
