James Marshall Hendrix znany jako Jimi Hendrix (ur. 27 listopada 1942 w Seattle (USA), zm. 18 września 1970 w Londynie (Anglia)] - amerykański gitarzysta, wokalista, kompozytor rockowy najczęściej wiązany ze stylami acid rock, psychodeliczny rock, blues rock i jazz rock. Jako nastolatek za 5 dolarów kupił używaną gitarę i sam nauczył się na niej grać. Był leworęczny, więc musiał instrument przystosować do swoich potrzeb. Hendrix był jednym z najwybitniejszych gitarzystów i w ogóle instrumentalistów rockowych. Wypracował szereg unikalnych, nieznanych wcześniej technik gry na gitarze elektrycznej - między innymi bardzo kreatywne wykorzystanie sprzężenia zwrotnego, mocno przesterowanych wzmacniaczy oraz zastosowanie szeregu elektronicznych przetworników gitarowych. Często też grał na niedokładnie nastrojonych gitarach, dociągając struny palcami na gryfie, by osiągnąć prawidłowy dźwięk. Dlatego też jego gra była często lekko fałszywa. Także i nosowy wokal miał tendencje do fałszowania. Jimi Hendrix zmarł 18 września 1970 w skutek komplikacji po zażyciu środków nasennych.

Ten amerykański czarnoskóry muzyk jazzowy, obdarzony ciepłym głosem o pięknej barwie i głębi, rozpoczął karierę jako pianista, później jednak wsławił się balladami. Dzieciństwo i młodość spędził w Chicago. W 1937 roku zaczął występować w klubach jazzowych w Los_Angeles. W 1939 roku założył Trio King Cole (wraz z Oscarem Moorem i Wesleyem Princem). Z czasem jego związki z jazzem uległy rozluźnieniu, a on przeszedł do historii przede wszystkim jako wokalista śpiewający muzykę "łatwą i przyjemną".
