W trakcie swojej 50-letniej kariery David Bowie zawsze zaskakiwał, zniewalał, rozanielał. Rok 2016 i płyta (czyt. blackstar) nie jest w tej kwestii wyjątkiem. Zaledwie 7 utworów, ale prawie 45 minut nowej muzyki od "kameleona rock'n'rolla" to jedna z najbardziej zaskakujących i oryginalnych płyt w jego dyskografii. Jak twierdzi jej producent i stały współpracownik Bowiego Toni Visconti - głównym celem podczas jej nagrywanie było 'unikanie rock'n'rolla', dlatego znaleźć tu można elementy jazzu, elektroniki i krautrocka, gatunku rozpropagowanego przed niemieckie zespoły z lat 70-tych, czyli Can czy Kraftwerk.
