"Szkoła gry na altówkę" Hansa Sitta zawiera szereg praktycznych ćwiczeń kształcących umiejętności techniczne altowiolistów. Odnaleźć w niej można ćwiczenia o różnym stopniu trudności. Na początku opisane jest ułożenie palców w konkretnych pozycjach. Następnie zamieszczono szereg ćwiczeń w konkretnych pozycjach. "Szkoła gry" Sitta zawiera przy tym liczne gamy, pasaże oraz typowe, edukacyjne etiudy m. in. ćwiczenia na obiegniki, płynne legato, dwudźwięki, arpeggia. Na końcu odnaleźć można kilkanaście fragmentów z popularnych utworów różnych kompozytorów (m. in. "Romanze und Arie des Ännchen aus Der Freischütz" C. M. Webera, fragment "Tria" Mozarta KV 498, oraz fragmenty z kwartetów Beethovena, Brahmsa, Smetany, Verdiego i uwertury "Faust" Wagnera). The present revised edition of Hans Sitt's Viola School embodies in the first place considerable additions to the original text. This has not only been carefully revised but is now supplemented by a number of separate pieces for practise, and an appendix containing a selection of important and difficult passages from the chamber music and orchestral repertoires. As exellent orchestral studies from the works of richard Wagner and Richard Strauss are already available the editor has confined himself i the field of opera to the viola solo from C. M. Antonio Bartolomeo Bruni (ur. 1757, zm. 1821) to wybitny włoski skrzypek, dyrygent i kompozytor. Większość życia spędził w Paryżu. Skomponował wiele oper komicznych, ponad 200 utworów kameralnych oraz liczne utwory o charakterze pedagogicznym. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera szkołę na altówkę obejmującą 25 etiud. We wstępie zamieszczono informacje dotyczące transponowania i czytania w kluczu altowym. The music for the Viola is written in the Alto clef, C on the third line. The Viola is tuned in fifths like the Violin, with the difference that the E string of the Violin becomes the A on the Viola, and consequently A becomes D, D becomes G and G becomes C.
