Kompozycja fortepianowa Edwarda MacDowella (1860 - 1908) - pianisty i kompozytora amerykańskiego. MacDowell studia muzyczne odbył w Paryżu, w klasie fortepianu u A.F. Marmontela, oraz we Frankfurcie nad Menem w klasie kompozycji u J. Raffa. Od 1881 działał jako profesor klasy fortepianu w konserwatorium w Darmstadcie, natomiast od 1896 został profesorem muzyki w Columbia University. Jego muzyka inspirowana jest przede wszystkim romantyzmem europejskim (głównie twórczością R. Schumanna, F. Liszta, R. Wagnera), ale także folklorem indiańskim. Wśród dorobku artysty znajdują się kompozycje fortepianowe, poematy symfoniczne, pieśni chóralne i solowe.
