These 'critico-practical' editions by Charles-Marie Widor and Dr. Albert Schweitzer have been a mainstay of organ literature since their publication in 1912. The eight volumes are indexed by the type of composition and offer extensive observations, based on historical evidence and traditional performance, on topics such as registration, ornamentation, and phrasing. This volume illustrates the working of chorales in every style, as well as instruction in the use of the pedal.

Samuel Scheidt (1587 - 1654) to niemiecki kompozytor i organista tworzący na początku epoki baroku. Był on uczniem Sweelincka. Prezentowana publikacja - "Ausgewählte Werke" gromadzi w sobie wybrane kompozycje organowe Scheidta. Zbiór podzielony został na cztery części. W pierwszej z nich znajduje się jedenaście kompozycji ujętych tytułem "Deutsche Kirchenlieder". Są to opracowania niemieckich pieśni kościelnych. Druga część - "Lateinische Hymanen" - zawiera kompozycje oparte na łacińskich hymnach. W części trzeciej znajdują się wybrane fantazje i kanony, natomiast w czwartej części - "Weltliche Liedvariationen und Tanzsätze" odnaleźć można m. in. wariacje na temat "Gagliardy" Johna Dowlanda, oraz opracowanie francuskiej pieśni "Est-ce Mars?".
