"The Abyss" to balet Aleksandra Czerepina, rosyjskiego pianisty i kompozytora (1899 - 1977). Dzieło oparte na historii Leonida Andreyeva o tym samym tytule opowiada o losach zakochanej pary - młodej dziewczyny i studenta, którzy przeżywają początek swojej miłości. Spacerują oni po lesie i są wobec siebie bardzo nieśmiali. Mijają ich różni ludzie żartujący z zachowania zakochanych. Książka zawiera wyciąg fortepianowy, a także streszczenie i opis scenografii baletu. Publikacja przeznaczona jest dla zaawansowanych pianistów.

A student and a girl are walking slowly through the forest, happy to be together. It si the timid beginning of love and he is too shy to touch her. They encounter two common women, who mock their timidity and pass scornfully by with obscenities. Twilight falls and it is time to return to the town. They pass by a group of three ruffians who are drinking. The ruffians see them, are excited by the sight of the innocent girl and attack the student. The student defens himself and the girl with courage but is overwhelmed and left senseless on the ground. The three men seize the girl and force her off-stage to rape her, one by one.
