"Art of Velocity" Lütgena zawiera dwadzieścia ćwiczeń wokalnych w opracowaniu na głos i fortepian. Pozwalają one na rozwijanie technicznych umiejętności w śpiewie klasycznym. Celem ich autora było m. in. to, aby uczniowie osiągnęli "elastyczność" oraz "gładkość" w śpiewaniu pasaży oraz koloratur. By zapobiec monotonii w ćwiczeniu Lütgen, opierając się na własnej metodzie, stworzył kompozycje nie tylko o pedagogicznej, ale również muzycznej wartości.

The aim of these studies is to impart to the voice ample flexibility and smoothness, so that it may be rendered capable of executing, with ease and elegance, coloratura passages and embellishments contained in the words of our great composers. They should assist the Vocalist in the same way that Czerny's "School of Velocity" does the Pianist. In order to avoid the almost inevitable monotony and fatigue connected with strictly methodical course of study, it has been Lütgen special endeavour to impart to his exercises a musical and agreeble form, keeping the voice within a very limited compass in order to avoid straining it.
