Frank Martin (15 września 1890 - 21 listopada 1974) to szwajcarski kompozytor, który większość swojego życia spędził w Holandii. Studiował muzykę początkowo u J. Laubera, a następnie (1918 - 26) w Zurychu, Rzymie i Paryżu. Wczesna twórczość posiada wyraźne wpływy C. Francka, G. Faurégo, C. Debussy'ego i M. Ravela. Twórczość dojrzała krzyżuje w sobie różne element i tendencje: technika dodekafoniczna z impresjonistyczną tonalnością, francuska wrażliwość kolorystyczna ze ścisłą linearną konstrukcją. This music was written in two stages, of which the first (from bar 21 onwards of this edition), dates from 1945 and was written for the occasion described above, with the title Petite Fanfare. The second stage was the addition of twenty introductory bars at the request of Victor Desarzens for the purpose of a concert organised by Lausanne Radio on 15th September 1960 for the composer's 70th birthday.
