W 1938 roku na stałe osiadł z rodziną w Sierre (Szkocja). Jego działalność kompozytorska miała głęboki wpływ na życie muzyczne w tamtejszym regionie. Ponadto uczył kontrapunktu i dyrygentury w Konserwatorium w Sierre. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera Koncert na puzon, orkiestrę smyczkową i perkusję (ad libitum). Utwór posiada budowę trzyczęściową: I - Allegro (ćwierćnuta z kropką = ok. 126 - 132), II - Lento e con intimo sentimento (ćwierćnuta = ok. 60), III - Allegro (ćwierćnuta = 120 - 124). Roger Reynolds (ur. 1934) to współczesny, amerykański kompozytor i pedagog, jeden z pionierów muzyki komputerowej w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Utwór "...the serpent-snapping eye" powstał w latach 1978 - 1979. Inspiracją do jego napisania była dla kompozytora słynna powieść Hermana Melville - "Moby - dick". Wszystkie partie zostały ujęte w notacji graficznej. W skład perkusji wchodzą: dwa trójkąty, wibrafon, marimba, dwa krowie dzwonki, dwa tom tomy, jeden kocioł (pedałowy), dzwonki orkiestrowe i dzwony rurowe. Czas trwania utworu: ok. 20' "...the serpent-snapping eye" is the second of a series of works based on images from Melvile's Moby Dick. Concurrent series of accelerating and ritarding events / lengths. In each, a four-channel tape provides a sonorous model and controls the temporal placement of events. The work explores the way performers can join with the rich fabric of taped sound. In the first of three sections, the primary aim is to match, to submit to and intensify the taped sound. The balance between synthesized and live sounds is critical to proper performance.
