This arrangements in this book are intended to give additional, recreational work to those in the early stages of studying the guitar. Only easy keys are used, there are few accidentals, the rhythms are simple, and the left hand does not move away from the nut position: the harmonic language is traditional and such chords as are used are easy to play - they will be familiar to anyone who has worked through the customary, elementary pieces by Carcassi, Aguado and the like. For the most part, the music is in only two parts - the melody and a supproting bass.

Fernando Sor was born in Barcelona on 14 February 1778. He was beyond doubt the leading guitarist of the early 19th century. His works for guitar, particularly his etudes, reveal a superior level of musicianship.
Sor's Etudes opp. 31, 35 and 60, which have been collected in these 3 volumes, are among the most important pedagogical pieces of the Classical period. Indended for practical use in guitar lessons, they are arranged in increasing order of difficulty. Only a few etudes which I consider of lesser value have been omitted from the collection.
