"Madame butterfly" to opera w trzech aktach Giacomo Pucciniego, powstała w 1904 roku. Autorami libretta są Luigi Illica oraz Giuseppe Giacosa. Tekst ten został oparty na powieści Johna Luthera Longa i dramacie Davida Belasco. Premiera pierwszej wersji opery miała miejsce 17 lutego 1904 w La Scali w Mediolanie. The year is 1900. In London for the English premiere of "Tosca", Puccini attends a performance of "Madam Butterfly", a play by David Belasco based on a story by the American writer John Luther Long. Deeply impressed by the play, it is not long before commissions his librettists, Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, who had worked with him on "La Bohéme" and "Tosca", to work up the material for a new opera. In October 1901 Puccini begins composing the opera, taking a year to do it. At the premiere of "Madama Butterfly" at "La Scala", Milan, on February 17, 1904, there is trouble in the house, evidently engineered. the authors withdraw the score and set to work on a revised version. The second act is divided into acts two and three by means of the symphonic interlude, in all 292 bars are dropped. Lista utworów: |
