Roman Maciejewski (ur. 28 lutego 1910, zm. 30 kwietnia 1998) był kompozytorem, pianistą i dyrygentem. Mazurki powstawały w ciągu całego życia kompozytora. Są fenomenem swojego rodzaju; o formie niesłychanie skondensowanej, będące czymś o wiele więcej niż tańcami i piosenkami ludowymi, a już z pewnością nie salonowymi pastiszami folkloru! Na tym tle dochodziło i dochodzi nadal od ponad półtora wieku do kardynalnych nieporozumień wśród zarówno kompozytorów, jak i wykonawców. Roman Maciejewski pragnął w nich przedstawić jak "najpełniejszy obraz duszy polskiej". W niniejszym, dwutomowym zbiorze zostały umieszczone tylko te mazurki, które są kompletne. Obecne wydanie jest tomem pierwszym i zawiera Mazurki nr 1 - 21. We wstępie publikacji zamieszczono komentarz szczegółowy do utworów. Roman Maciejewski (1910 - 1998) was composer, pianist and conductor. His Mazurkas were written thoroughout his career as a composer and are something of a phenomenon. Characterized by their exceptionally compact form, they go far beyond what we regard as folk dance and song. And they certainly cannot be regarded as drawing-room pastiches of folk music! For more than a century and a half the question of defining themazurka's affiliations has led to serious misunderstanding among both composers and performers. Maciejewski wished to present in them "the most complete picture of the Polish soul".
