Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897) to niemiecki kompozytor, pianista i dyrygent okresu romantyzmu. Jest on autorem licznych kompozycji fortepianowych. Do muzyki na ten instrument Brahms przenosił zdobycze faktury symfonicznej (np. zdwojenia interwałów, czy kontrasty rejestrów). Jego dzieła fortepianowe cechują się syntezą romantycznej ekspresji z klasyczną symetrią. Zeszyt piąty "Dzieł fortepianowych" jest wyborem różnych kompozycji Brahmsa na fortepian.
