Hey Look Me Over

Ten arrangements for two pianos, four hands, in the incomparable Mannheim style: Carol of the Birds • God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen • Greensleeves • In Dulci Jubilo • Traditions of Christmas • We Three Kings of Orient Are.

This Concerto was written in the autumn of 1782 at Vienna and first published by Artaria & Co. in 1785. Concerning this work and two others composed at about the same time (K. 413, 415), Mozart wrote to his father on December 28, 1782: "These concertos are a happy medium between what is too easy and too difficult; they are very brilliant, pleasing to the ear, and natural, without being vapid. There are passages here and there from which connoisseurs alone can derive satisfaction, but these passages are written in such a way that the less learned cannot fail to be pleased, although without knowing why".
All the cadenzas in the present edition are by Mozart.

Kolekcja "Dzieł na dwa klawesyny" Jana Sebastiana Bacha. Zawarto tu Koncert C-dur BWV 1061a składający się z trzech części: I - bez określonego tempa, II - Adagio ovvero Largo, III - Fuga; oraz dwie Fugi d-moll BWV 1080/18. Koncert C-dur w oryginale skomponowany został na klawesyn, orkiestrę smyczkową i basso continuo.

Of the six tunes which are contrapuntally combined in the composition, four are well - known square dances: "Boston Fancy", "Devil's Dream", "Old Fiddler's Breakdown" and "Old zip Coon". The America square dance in played on the fiddle alone, ocassionally accompanied by either guitar or banjo. Its type of fast, even figuration is conceived by the players' fingers, analogous to the way in which fiddle patterns dominate the gypse scardas or the Norwegian halling. The term square dance (Virginia reel) is now applied generally even to "round" folk dances, all of them originally Irish or Scottish reels before they were imported to America.
