Hymn koronacyjny został skomponowany w 1727 roku, z okazji koronacji Jerzego II Hanowerskiego na króla Wielkiej Brytanii. Anthem jest utworem chóralnym, posiadającym tekst w języku angielskim. Związany jest z wyznaniem anglikańskim. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera opracowanie "Zadok the Priest" na chór SSAATBB z akompaniamentem fortepianu lub organów. We wstępie publikacji zamieszczono uwagi wykonawcze od edytora. The Coronation Anthems were written at a critical moment in Handel's career. When he came to England in 1710 he came as a famous composer of Italian operas, and it was with an Italian opera (Rinaldo, 1711) that he first won the esteem and affection of the English public. But by 1727 that same public was beginning to tire of the opera; nor did the attacks of the critics (especially the literary critics, who had been against opera from the beginning) and the antics of the leading singers, both off-stage and on, make the future look bright. While the final demise of opera in England was not to come for another ten years, its death knell was clearly sounded in John Gay's Beggar's Opera (1728), produced a scant three months after the coronation. Te ostatnie należą do jego najbardziej znanych prac. ''Sonaty biblijne'' to muzyka pełna emocjonalnych stanów, głównie za przyczyną historii zaczerpniętych z biblii. Cykl ''sonat biblijnych'' składa się z 6 tomów, zawierających po 1 sonacie opartej na tekście biblijnym. Niniejsza Sonata nr 5 opiera się na Księdze Sędziów opisującej odwrócenie się Gideona od Boga podczas wyjścia z Egiptu. Oratorium "Ukrzyżowanie" John Stainer skomponował w 1887 roku. Dzieło przeznaczone jest na dwa głosy solowe - tenor i bas, chór SATB i organy. Autorem libretta jest Sparrow Simpson. Sam twórca uznał oratorium za "śmieci", jednak jest ono współcześnie często wykonywane i cieszy się dużą popularnością. Premiera "Ukrzyżowania" miała miejsce w paryskim kościele, 24 lutego 1887 roku. The Crucifixion was first performed in St. Marylebone Parish Church on 24 February 1887, and published by Novello the same year. In 1915 Novello issued a 'revised edition' in which 'the only alterations made are the substitution of the word 'plead' for 'pray' on pages 34 and 39 and the insertion of a new line in the hymn on page 39. Metronomic indications of the tempi have also been placed at the head of each number'. The alteration of 'woe' to 'pain' in the last bar of page 5 is not mentioned, but is clearly a correction of an error in the rhyme scheme. The new line on page 39 avoids an alteration of metre which would have caused problems in a congregational hymn. There is no obvious verbal or theological reason for changing 'pray' to 'plead'. However, these verbal alterations may have been made by the librettist, and have been retained here, with the 1887 words as footnotes. Since Stainer died in 1901 the authority for the metronome marks in uncertain; they are given here in square brackets, as are the few dynamic markings added in 1915. Lista utworów: |
