Morton Feldman (1926 - 1987) to amerykański kompozytor pochodzenia żydowskiego. Jego muzyka jest bardzo subtelna, wiele utworów utrzymanych jest bowiem w dynamice pianissimo, często niemal na progu słyszalności. We wczesnej twórczości artysta wykorzystywał elementy aleatoryzmu (wprowadzał do utworów działania losowe), późniejsze jego kompozycje posiadają kompletne partytury. "Two Pieces for Three Pianos" to kompozycja Feldmana na trzy fortepiany. Złożona jest ona z dwóch części. W obu częściach znajdują się fragmenty zanotowane bez metrum i wartości rytmicznych. Kompozytor wskazuje, że cały utwór ma być wykonywany w dynamice piano pianissimo. Morton Feldman - "My earliest recollection of music - I couldn't have been more than five - is my mother holding one of my fingers and picking out "Eli Eli" with it on the piano. At the age of twelve, I was fortunate enough to come under the tutelage of Madame Maurina-Press, a Russian aristocrat who earned her living after the revolution by teaching piano and by playing in a trio with her husband and brother-in-law. In fact they were quite well known in those days. It was because of her -only, I think, because she was not a disciplination- that I was instilled with a sort of vibrant musicality rather than musicianship".
