Although transcriptions of pieces by Chopin, Mozart or Beethoven for solo guitar are increasingly popular, however due to technical problems they present, these transcriptions are often too difficult for beginners. This edition contains a collection of ten well-known pieces from the classical repertoire, arranged for two guitars. The author's main intention was to provide a simple solo part which could be performed even by the youngest and least advanced guitarist, with an accompaniment of his/her teachers. A monodic facture treament of the solo part, intended for a pupil, makes it possible to avoid difficult left hand positions (which often cause hand stiffening and a general discomfort while playing) allowing him/her to concentrate on the most important aspects of performing music, such as tone quality, fluent phrasing and articulation. Thus for the first time in a separate publication of these works any editorial suggestions are readily distinguishable from the original text. Byrd's own accidentals are printed in the normal position, i. e. to the left of the note affected while other accidentals, added for whatever reason, appear in small type above the note. A system of regular barring has been applied having regard to the fact that the training and equipment of the present-day choral singer bear little relation to those of his sixteenth-century counterpart. Podstawową ideą kompozytora było wykreowanie czegoś na kształt muzycznego zbioru chaotycznych skrawków pamięci, z których wykonawca i słuchacz mogliby "wyławiać" małe lub większe fragmenty i skupiać się na nich, inne traktując bardziej pobieżnie, według własnego uznania i upodobania, tak jak ma to miejsce w przypadku wspominania mniej lub bardziej odległych w czasie rzeczy minionych (stąd tytuł). Utwór, jako w zamierzeniu pozycja konkursowa, jest też próbą stworzenia materiału stanowiącego wyzwanie od strony wykonawczej, przy jednoczesnym uniknięciu wejścia w idiom brzmieniowy, charakterystyczny dla tego specyficznego i trudnego instrumentu, jakim jest gitara. "Things Passed" składa się z trzech części, z których pierwsza wykorzystuje przede wszystkim zjawiska natury sonorystycznej, druga skupia się na rytmie i harmonii, zaś trzecia podsumowuje i jednoczy poprzednie. Things Passed for solo guitar, commisioned by the XII "Silesian Guitar Autumn" Festival in Tychy (Poland) 2008, was written in Louisville during the last few months of the year 2007. The basic idea for the composer was to create a kind of musical collection of chaotic bits of memories, from which the performer, as well as the listener, would pick out smaller or bigger fragments and focus on them, treating the other secondarily, as it often happens while recalling memories of things that are passed (therefore the title). The piece, intended as a part of the guitar competition, is also an attemp to generate the material challenging for the performer, without using the sound idiom, which is characteristic for this specific and difficult instrument. Things Passed consists of three parts, of which the first primarily uses the sonoristic events, the second focuses on the rhythm and harmony, and the last summes up and unites the previous parts. Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer żył w latach 1783 - 1860. W dzieciństwie grał na fortepianie, skrzypcach i wiolonczeli. Jego nauczycielem teorii muzyki i podstaw kompozycji był organista i kompozytor Ruttinger. Dotzauer wyjechał do Meiningen w 1799 roku i kontynuował studia pod kierunkiem znanego niemieckiego wiolonczelisty i koncertmistrza kapeli książęcej Krigcka. Dwa lata później został przyjęty do kapeli dworskiej w Meiningen. Pozostał tam do czasu wyjazdu do kapeli w Lipsku (1805). Podczas pobytu w tym mieście grał w orkiestrze Gewandhaus do 1811 roku. Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer was born on January 20, 1783 at Haselrich, Germany. In his childhood Justus played the piano, violin and cello. The organist and composer Ruttinger instructed him in music theory and elementary composition. Dotzauer left for Meiningen in 1799 and continued his studies under the famous German violoncellist and concertmaster of the ducal chapel Krigck. Two years later, he was admitted to the Meinigen court chapel. There he stayed until 1805, when he left for a Leipzig chapel. While he was in Leipzig, he played in the Gewandhaus orchestra until 1811. He often visited Berlin to listen to Romberg. Sotzauer played in the Dresden chapel for forty years (from 1821 until 1850 as principal violoncellist), taking part in symphonic and operatic performances. In 1850, he left his post in the court orchestra and retired. He died in Dresden on March 6, 1860. Dotzauer was no ordinary composer - he wrote an opera, several masses, symphonies, overtures and nine concertos, three concertinos, the Double concerto for two cellos, chamber and solo compositions (sonatas, fantasias, variations, divertissements and pot - pourris). W "Chantefleurs et chantefables" Witold Lutosławski umuzycznił dziewięć krótkich rymowanek o kwiatach i zwierzętach ułożonych w 1940 roku przez francuskiego poetę Roberta Desnosa (1900 - 1945). Słowo "Chantefables" ("śpiewobajki") Desnos wymyślił dla miniaturowych opowiadań o zwierzętach, ptakach i owadach, a "Chanteflers" ("śpiewokwiaty") dla równie krótkich, lirycznych wierszy o kwiatach. Do poezji Desnosa Lutosławski sięgnął już wcześniej, komponując pieśni na baryton i orkiestrę "Les espaces du sommeil". W onirycznej atmosferze przypominającej surrealistyczne "Przestrzenie snu" (1975) rozpoczyna się również to dzieło - "Pięknością nocy" (La Belle-de-nuit) - kwiatem, który zakwita po zachodzie słońca i dlatego we Francji nosi takie właśnie miano. Muzyka pomaga ujrzeć w wyobraźni obraz sennych marzeń unoszących się do księżyca. Na "Różę" (La Rose) sen sprowadza żar letniego słońca. In his "Chantefleurs et chantefables", Lutosławski set nine short rhymes about flowers and animals written by the French poet Robert Desnos (1900 - 45) in 1940. The word "Chantefables" ("song-fables") was invented by Desnos to refer to miniature stories about animals, birds and insects, whereas the word "Chantefleurs" ("song-flowers") denotes correspondingly short lirycal poems about flowers. Lutosławski had already used Desnos' poetry in his songs for baritone and orchestra, Les espaces du sommeil. The work Chantedleurs et chantefables also begins with a dream-like atmosphere - reminiscent of the surrealistic Les espaces du sommeil (1975) - in The Beauty of the Night (La Belle-de-nuit), denoting a flower, which blooms after the sunset and therefore is called like that in France. The music helps us to form in our minds an image of dreams floating to the moon. The Rose (La Rose) drifts into sleep in the heat of the summer sun. Throughout his life Lutosławski declared himself an opponent of programmatic and illustrative music, but the sound painting in Chantefleurs et chantefables is simply striking. Musical humour appears, in the first place, in the four zoological portraits - of the grasshopper, the tortoise, the alligator and a swarm of butterflies. The grasshoper hops with abandon, the tortoise plods along and dreams. The hungry alligator tries in vain to entrap an appetizing little black boy, while the swarm of 300 million butterflies drink up a cup of broth in Chatillon, taking it away from the local people.
