Gorczycki jest jednym z najwybitniejszych przedstawicieli polskiego baroku w muzyce. Cztery hymny, które zostały zamieszczone w niniejszej publikacji, nie były nigdy za życia kompozytora drukowane. Wykonywano je z kopii rękopiśmiennych. Utwory reprezentują nurt twórczości, w którym krzyżują się założenia artystyczne i środki palestrinowskiego "stile antico" z nowszymi, charakterystycznymi dla "stile moderno". Teksty, na których oparte są cztery hymny należą do zabytków starochrześcijańskiej poezji liturgicznej, tworzonej według zasad wersyfikacji łacińskiej - metrycznej. Obsada wykonawcza utworów jest dokładnie oznaczona - czterogłosowy zespół wokalny w składzie: sopran, alt, tenor i bas, dwoje skrzypiec oraz organy, których partia zapisana była w postaci basu cyfrowanego. Głosy wokalne występują w zwartej grupie, prawie zawsze z towarzyszeniem instrumentów. Źródłem niniejszego wydania są rękopiśmienne partytury, sporządzone przez A. Chybińskiego z poszczególnych głosów pisanych ręką kompozytora. Ponieważ rękopisy, z których korzystał Chybiński, spłonęły w Bibliotece Narodowej podczas II wojny światowej, komentarz rewizyjny odnosi się wyłącznie do kopii, a nie do oryginałów. Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki, one of the mostoutstanding representatives of Polish Baroque music, came from Upper Silesia. He was born about 1667. The compositions included in the present edition were never printed in his lifetime, but like the rest of his output, were performed from manuscript copies. They reflect the creative trend in which the artistic guiding principles and media of palestrina's "stile antico" cross with newer ones, characteristic of the "stile moderno". The texts of which the compositions now published are based are examples of early Christian liturgical petry composed according to the principales of Latin metrical versification. The form of the works under discussion in characterized by progression in small sections, which is in turn determined by the structure of the lityrgical text and it is realized mainly by way of the motet method of chorale treatment, so popular in German sacred music of seventeen century. In the hymns the scoring is precisely defined - it consists of a four-part vocal ensemble (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), two violins and an organ, whose part was notated in the form of figured bass. The vocal parts form a compact group, nearly always accompanied by instruments. The sources of present edition are the manuscript scores prepared by A. Chybiński from the individual parts written by the composer. Since the manuscripts used by Chybiński were destroyed by fire in the National Library in Warsaw during the Second World War, the Editorial Notes refer exclusively to the copies, and not to the originals. Edward Elgar (1857 - 1934) to kompozytor brytyjski. Pozostawił po sobie m. in. dwie symfonie, oratorium "The dream of Gerontius", oraz wariacje na temat własny pt. "Enigma". Utwór "Salut d'amour" op. 12 Elgar skomponował w 1886 roku. Artysta przeznaczył tę kompozycję na skrzypce i fortepian. Partię fortepianu pisał z myślą o swojej uczennicy z klasy akompaniamentu fortepianowego - Caroline Alice Roberts. We wrześniu 1888 roku Roberts została żoną kompozytora. "Salute d'amour" istnieje w bardzo wielu wersjach na przeróżne obsady (opracowania m. in. na fortepian solo, na głos wokalny, czy małą orkiestrę). Prezentowane wydanie "Salute d'amour" zawiera aranżację na fortepian solo. In July 1888 Edward Elgar added the date to a piece for violin and piano that he had entitled "Luebesgrüss". Since October 1886 Elgar had received Caroline Alice Roberts as a pupil in the art of piano accompaniment, and the violin piece almost certainly originated in the course of their growing relationship. Master and pupil become engaged in September 1888. One other rather subtle change was also implied by the cover of Schott's printed edtition. The piece appeard in several versions. First in the autumn of 1889, it was released simultaneously in versions for violin and piano, piano solo and small orchestra, then other arrangements followed: by 1899 the cover title to the music boasted no less than 20 instrumental versions and vocal versions in various keys, to two texts in English and one in French. As a piano solo, "Salut d'amour" has sufficient technical challenges and musical substance to remain a rewarding experience for the player. Lista utworów: |

William Byrd (ur. 1543, zm. 1623) to kompozytor i organista, współcześnie uważany za jednego z najważniejszych twórców muzyki angielskiego renesansu. W twórczości chóralnej osiągnął mistrzostwo, przez co często nazywany był "angielskim Palestriną". Głównym osiągnięciem Byrda jest stworzenie angielskiej liturgii madrygałowej. Publikacja zawiera Mszę na chór SATB (partytura). Dzieło posiada następujące części: I - Kyrie, II - Gloria, III - Credo, IV - Sanctus, V - Benedictus, VI - Agnus Dei. This new transcription of Byrd's Masses for three, four and five voices respectively has been prepared mainly to meet the demand for a practical choir edition. Although these masterpieces of Tudor polyphony have long been familiar through earlier transcriptions by Rimbault, Rockstro, Barclay Squire, Terry and Fellowes a few textural uncesrtainties have persisted. I have therefore used the occasion to make a definitive score by reference to the set of original part-books in the British Museum. Thus for the first time in a separate publication of these works any editorial suggestions are readily distinguishable from the original text. Byrd's own accidentals are printed in the normal position, i. e. to the left of the note affected while other accidentals, added for whatever reason, appear in small type above the note. A system of regular barring has been applied having regard to the fact that the training and equipment of the present-day choral singer bear little relation to those of his sixteenth-century counterpart. Experience has shown that any visual advantage to the rhythmic flow derived from irregular barring is diminished in practice by difficulties of counting and place-finding. Lista utworów: |
