"[...] Ta prosta opowieść ma dla mnie bardzo głęboki sens, sens ponadczasowy, wyrażający istotę twórczości artystycznej czy wręcz istotę kultury i nasz w niej udział. [...]" - napisał Zbigniew Bujarski o źródłach inspiracji swego utworu.
Poemat symfoniczny "Peirene", to utwór programowy, do którego droga wiedzie od greckiej mitologii, poprzez dość dowolną interpretację jej różnych wątków dokonaną przez twórcę do skomponowanej przez niego muzyki. (Kraków, 7 - 8 listopada 2003r., z programu koncertu).
Na początku publikacji zamieszczono objaśnienia oznaczeń zawartych w notacji i skład orkiestry.

The symphonic poem Peirene is a programmatic work, its music originating in Greek mythology - its various motifs being treated in a fairly free way by the composer. (Cracow, 7 - 8 November 2003, from the programme of the concert).
