Choral music plays an important role in Zbigniew Ciechan's artistic activity. The present publication contains three works written to patriotic texts. Two of them were granted prizes during the national competition for composers organized in 1979 by the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras. In view of the fact that it is universally known that Jan Pieterszon Sweelinck (1562 - 1621) is one of the foremost personalities of music history, it is hardly necessary to set forth the reason at the present time. Sweelinck is commonly regarded as the last of the greater Netherland composers of the Renaissance era and his music testifies not only to his own gratness but also to that of the entire era which he brought to its mighty climatic close. Publikacja zawiera dwie kompozycje z różnych okresów twórczości Dymitra Szostakowicza na dwa fortepiany. Suita fis-moll op. 6 została napisana w marcu 1922 roku, kiedy Szostakowicz studiował w Konserwatorium w Petersburgu. Rękopis wskazuje na to, że dzieło zostało napisane bez wprowadzania poprawek i poświęcone ojcu kompozytora - Boleslavovichowi Szostakowiczowi, który zmarł w lutym 1924 roku. Suita po raz pierwszy została wykonana publicznie w marcu 1925 roku w Konserwatorium Moskiewskim przez Dymitra Szostakowicza i Leva Oborina. Drugi utwór - "Merry March" - został skomponowany w 1949 roku i początkowo skatalogowany jako op. 81. Nieco później kompozytor postanowił zmienić numerację i dzieło pozostawił bez opusu, a pod op. 81 przyporządkował oratorium "The Song of the Forests" skomponowane w tym samym roku co Marsz. Publikacja "Boże, coś Polskę" zawiera 18 pieśni religijno-patriotycznych, które odegrały szczególną rolę w historii narodu polskiego. Utwory te były śpiewane w kościołach, domach, w pochodach oraz manifestacjach patriotycznych. W czasie zaborów i okupacji ich wykonywanie było zabronione. Obok pieśni w opracowaniu Romualda Twardowskiego, w zbiorze "Boże, coś Polskę" odnaleźć można również słynną średniowieczną pieśń "Bogurodzica" oraz hymn "Gaude Mater Polonia" w opracowaniu Teofila Klonowskiego. Pieśni opracowane są na chór mieszany (SATB) i organy. Na końcu publikacji zamieszczono "Komentarz do pieśni" w którym opisana jest szczegółowo historia wybranych pieśni. Thirteenth century was the time when first songs on Polish were formed. Since people began to sing in Polish the most popular preyers like Our Father, Hail Mary, th Commandments... so the first known Polish songs were the preyer songs. In this compact issue we present a selection od the most important Polish patriotic and religiuos hymns and songs which played a very special part in Poland's history.
