Sonata nr 1 na fortepian Davida Mavesa (ur. 1937 w Salem) została skomponowana w 1973 roku. Maves uczęszczał na Uniwersytet w Oregonie, gdzie studiował kompozycję u Homera Keller. Później uczył się w Graduate School na Uniwersytecie Michigan, gdzie był uczniem Ross Lee Finney i Leslie Bassett. Jest laureatem wielu prestiżowych nagród kompozytorskich. Zawarta w niniejszej publikacji Sonata jest utworem współczesnym składającym się z części: I - Tessitura (Adagio), II - Tremolo, III - Attacca (Presto), IV - Fioriture (Adagio), V - Pianissimo, VI - Finale (Prestissimo). Każda część posiada odrębny charakter i technikę wykonawczą. Na początku publikacji zawarte zostały wszelkie informacje dotyczące wykonawstwa i problematyki kompozycji. "This work, I am attempting to have the audience listen to the piano in a new and very intense way - to concentrate on the piano itself. Each of the first five movements is a kind of etude for the listener in which various, relatively isolated areas of pianistic expression are explored. For example, in the second movement the performer is to build up the kind of tremolo practiced by the 19th century virtuoso pianists but, here, carrying the idea even further to the maximum level of which the piano is capable. When this level is achieved, the performer plays a kind of recitative as the piano sound dies away and makes a faint but definite "cut - off" just before the sound becomes inaudible." Publikacja zawiera Sonatę nr 2 współczesnego kompozytora - Charlesa Ivesa. Utwór, nazywany "Concord Sonatą", należy do jego najbardziej znanych i powszechnie uznawanych dzieł. Według katalogu dzieł Ivesa, według Johna Kirkpatricka, prace nad Sonatą kompozytor rozpoczął w 1904 roku, a pierwszy utwór opublikowano w 1920 roku. Sonata powstała w oparciu o esej Ivesa, dotyczący transcendentalizmu. Sonata posiada budowę czteroczęściową: I - Emerson, II - Hawthorne, III - The Alcotts, IV - Thoreau. Książka posiada także szczegółowe omówienie dotyczące technik wykonawczych, a także prolog Eseju kompozytora. Całość w języku angielskim. Średni czas trwania utworu: 43' (36' - 52'). According to the Ives Catalogue by John Kirkpatrick, Ives's own records and memos indicate that the Concord Sonata was mostlycomposed, or more exactly recomposed, in 1911-12, from the unfinished scores of the Orchard House Overture (1904), the Emerson Concerto (1907), and the Hawthorne Concerto (1910). Though Ives played the whole Sonata for a friend in 1912, he considered the last two movements not finished until 1915. The Essays Before A Sonata were written in 1919. In 1920, both the Sonata and the Essays were privately printed, the engraving of the Sonata being done by G. Schrimer, Inc., and the printing of the Essays by the Knickerbocker Press. Sonata "June - December" na skrzypce i fortepian powstawała w przeciągu lat 2003 - 2005 w Katowicach. Utwór został prawykonany przez Krzysztofa Lasonia i Jacka Maksymiuka 27 kwietnia 2005 w Akademii Muzycznej im. Karola Szymanowskiego w Katowicach. Głównym impulsem do napisania Sonaty była potrzeba zmierzenia się z klasyczną formą. Drugim, równie ważnym impulsem była chęć rozbicia tej formy i wyjścia poza nią. Te dwa dążenia, pierwsze - do bycia konsekwentnym, do tworzenia, rozwijania i podsumowywania, drugie - do bycia nieprzewidywalnym, do tworzenia, kontrastowania i niszczenia, spotykają się tu ze sobą i ścierają niczym dwa tematy klasycznej sonaty. Tytuł utworu można rozumieć dwojako. Z jednej strony nawiązuje on wprost do czasu ukończenia części utworu, a z drugiej może też sugerować konflikt obecny w utworze. Sonata 'June - December' for violin and piano was composed in the course of the years 2003 - 2005 in Katowice and first performed on April 27th 2005 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. The main impulse to write the Sonata was the need to meet the challenge of the classical form. The second impulse, equally important, was the urge to destroy this form and go beyond it. These two drives, the first to be consistent, to create, develop and sum up, and the other to be unpredictable, to create, contrast and destroy, meet and compete with each other as themes in a classical sonata. The title can be understood in two ways. On the one hand it simply reflects the time when the two movements were finished, but on the other hand it also indicates the conflict present in the piece. Antoni Wincenty Rutkowski (ur. 1859, zm. 1886) to wybitny polski kompozytor, pianista i pedagog. W całokształcie jego dorobku twórczego da się wyróżnić dwa nurty. Pierwszy nurt reprezentują jego wczesne utwory nie odbiegające wiele od ówczesnej polskiej konwencji kompozytorskiej, choć nie pozbawionej niejednokrotnie ciekawszych elementów głównie w harmonii. Drugi - to kompozycje o dążnościach eksperymentatorskich o dość odważnych - jak na owe czasy i stosunki panujące w ówczesnej Polsce - próbach unowocześnienia swego języka muzycznego dochodzącego niekiedy do nowatorstwa Wagnera. Nurt ten cechują śmiałe zestawienia tonalne, operowanie następstwami akordów dysonansowych, zaś melodyka typu ornamentalno - figuracyjnego przestaje być pierwszoplanowym elementem muzycznym na korzyść współbrzmień harmonicznych. Antoni Wincenty Rutkowski - composer, pianist and teacher, was born in Warsaw on 21 January 1859. The period of his activity as a composer was short, lasting barely ten years, during which period he wrote approximately thirty works; eleven of them were lost. He composed mainly instrumental works, several of which - the shorter ones - were published during his lifetime. Two trends may clearly be distinguished throughout his oeuvre. The first is represented by his early works which do not differ significantly from contemporary Polish compositional conventions, even trhough they are frequently characterized by more interesting features, especially in harmonic content. The second trend comprises compositions characterized by experimental tendencies and, for the time and conditions precailing in contemporary Poland, audacious attempts at modernization of his musical language equalling sometimes the innovations of Wagner. This trend features bold, tonal juxtapositions, and the use of dissonant chord successions, while melody of an ornamental-figurative type ceases to be the foreground musical element in favour of harmonies. The autograph of the score of the Trio in G minor for violin, cello and piano is to be found in the library of the Warsaw Music Society. The Trio in G minor consists of three movements.
