Poszczególne części ''The Art of Songs'' to zbiory najpiękniejszych przykładów pieśni różnych kompozytorów. W przedstawionych częściach znalazły się pieśni wyłącznie wybitnych, niemieckich kompozytorów. Słowa pieśni przeznaczonych na głos wysoki zostały zachowane w większości w ich oryginalnym - niemieckim języku. Wyjątek stanowi utwór Mozarta "My Heart in confusion" posiadający tekst w języku włoskim i angielskim. W prezentowanym zbiorze znajdują się pieśni skomponowane przez takich kompozytorów, jak R. Schumann, J. Brahms, czy F. Schubert. Utwory są krótkie, wykorzystywane do nauki operowania głosem. Oprócz tego każdy zbiór posiada określony liczbą stopień trudności.

The German ''Lieder'' reportoire forms the heart of the collection, including some of the finest examples of the genre by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Wolf. There are also arias from operatic and choral works by Mozart and Haydn. All texts appear their original language (normally German, occasionally Italian or English), but English translations are also incorporated for all pieces in List A of the syllabus, which includes all the operatic arias.

Franz Schubert to jeden z najsłynniejszych twórców pieśni w romantyzmie. Stworzył on ponad sześćset dzieł wokalnych i wokalno - instrumentalnych (w tym przede wszystkim utwory na głos solowy z fortepianem). Jego inspiracją przede wszystkim była poezja. Artysta nadawał swoim pieśniom formę odzwierciedlającą budowę wybranego tekstu (często stosował formę pieśni zwrotkowej lub przekomponowanej). Siódmy zeszyt zbioru "Pieśni" zawiera 51 wybranych kompozycji Franza Schuberta na wysoki głos wokalny oraz fortepian. Są to utwory do słów takich poetów, jak m. in. Goethe, Schiller, Mayrhofer, Hofmann oraz Schlegel. W zbiorze znajduje się również jeden melodram na głos recytujący i fortepian pt. "Abschied von der Erde".
