Jacob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn - Bartholdy was born February 3, 1809. He grew up in an atmosphere of privileged wealth: what Harold Schonberg refers to as "...almost grim culture." His father, Abraham Mendelssohn, who was the son of the eminent philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, was an influential banker and played an important role in the social, intellectual and artistic city of Berlin. He married Lea Soloman, the granddaughter of one of Berlin's most affluent citizens. Their four children were given the finest education available. The atmosphere of their home was sophisticated, elite and enlightened and as a result they became singleminded and serious.
Many famous musicians, artists, philosophers, and literary figures of the day attended the Mendelssohn family's Sunday evening concerts. During these growing - up years Felix established friendships with Goethe and Hegel. Goethe's emphasis on the dynamic and productive aspects of art and Hegel's belief that "even in instrumental music the composer should devote equal attention to two aspects - musical structure, and the expression of an admittedly indeterminate content, "greatly influenced Mendelssohn's tendency toward the classical period's values of clear ideas and pure form.

This eight-movement suite was written by composer Tan Dun when he was a student in 1978-1979, about the time he left his home in Hunan to study at the conservatory in Beijing. He was homesick, and wrote this suite as a diary of his longing, while also being immersed in studying Western classical and modern music. Twenty years after its composition, pianist Lang Lang premiered the suite at the Kennedy Center in 2003, and he also played it at Carnegie Hall, in a performance recorded by Deutsche Grammophon.

Liszt jako wirtuoz fortepianu wielokrotnie opracowywał na ten instrument m. in. słynne dzieła orkiestrowe oraz organowe nadając im wirtuozowską fakturę oraz wariacyjną formę.

Kolekcja "Dzieł na dwa klawesyny" Jana Sebastiana Bacha. Zawarto tu Koncert C-dur BWV 1061a składający się z trzech części: I - bez określonego tempa, II - Adagio ovvero Largo, III - Fuga; oraz dwie Fugi d-moll BWV 1080/18. Koncert C-dur w oryginale skomponowany został na klawesyn, orkiestrę smyczkową i basso continuo.

The main theme with a hint a of cabaret - style is introduce by the violin in the 3rd measure, and then picked up by the cello in a slightly modified version and so both string instruments conduct a polyphonic dialogue throughout the whole Allegretto. Having aquainted ondeself thoroughly with Part One of the Trio, one gets the impression that that the composer has two obsessions (in the positive sense of the word). Rhythm and Art of Counterpoint, and i would describe Ms. Jonas' harmonic sense as Controlled Sonority. Part Two - Elegy: The texture based on very interesting harmony (predominatly sonority); construction of the piece is excellent with beautoful culmination in 15th and 16th measure, and on top of that a certain special longing and ruefulness noticeable in nearly every measure. Part Three - Rondino: The palette of sounds plays a insignificant role in this work (glissando and col legno of strings), but one also notices a transformation, the Piano Trio becomes a Jazz Combo!

The premier was given in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on April 16, 1991. It is a song cycle in the American cabaret tradition, written in reaction to Schubert's Die Winterreise (a woman struggles to get over a devastating love affair). The songbook also features complete lyrics and a separate lyric section, notes on 'December Songs' by Bernard Jacobson, and a bio of composer Maury Yeston.

II Symfonię B-dur op. 19 Karol Szymanowski napisał w latach 1909 - 1910. Pierwsze szkice powstały w kwietniu 1909 r., szkic całości był gotowy we wrześniu 1909 r. Orkiestracja trwała od października 1909 r. do końca 1910 r., a nawet (ostatnie stronice części II) do początku 1911 r. Był to czwarty utwór Szymanowskiego na orkiestrę symfoniczną, po Uwerturze koncertowej E-dur op. 12 (1904 - 1905), nie doprowadzonej do kompletności I Symfonii f-moll op. 15 (1906 - 1907) i Pentezilei, pieśni na sopran i orkiestrę op. 18 do słów Stanisława Wyspiańskiego.
II Symfonia wykonana została po raz pierwszy w Warszawie 7 IV 1911 przez orkiestrę Filharmonii Warszawskiej pod dyrekcją Grzegorza Fitelberga, następnie pod tą samą batutą w Berlinie 1 XII 1911, Wiedniu 18 I 1912, Lipsku 29 I 1912 i Krakowie 25 IV 1912 (grała tu orkiestra Wiener Konzert - Verein). Mimo powodzenia u publiczności i uznania ze strony krytyków, jakie dzieło zdobyło, Szymanowski nie był zadowolony z szaty orkiestrowej II Symfonii. Wiele jednak czasu upłynęło, zanim znalazł wolną chwilę, by dokonać koniecznych, wedle niego, retuszy, redukcji i poprawek instrumentacyjnych, a nawet formalnych. Sposobność taka nadarzyła się w lipcu 1927 r., kiedy kompozytor przebywał w Chojnicach, majątku przyjaciół na Pomorzu, reperując zdrowie i nerwy, w latach 1926 - 1927 wyraźnie pogarszające się. Nie był w owym czasie zdolny do pracy twórczej, zajęcie się dawnym utworem stanowiło jej swoisty substytut.
II Symfonia składa się z dwóch części: I - Allegro moderato. Grazioso (350 taktów), oraz II - Lento. Temat z wariacjami (291 taktów), którą kończy Fuga. Finale. Allegro moderato molto energico (119 taktów).
