Le Roi d'Ys

As with the ''melodies'' printed in ''The Art of French Song'', the arias in French Operatic Arias for Soprano have been arranged chronologically according to the dates of their composers' births. Inevitably this means that the printed order does not necessarily reflect the sequence in ehich the operas in question were premiered. I make no apology for this, since, altough in a fairly narrowly confined field such as French opera influences between composers were of course at work, I feel we should also consider the extent to which rhose composers were engaged in following their own paths and finding their own solutions.
