Krzysztof Meyer (ur. 1943 r. w Krakowie) studiował kompozycję w krakowskiej Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Muzycznej - początkowo w klasie Stanisława Wiechowicza, a po jego śmierci u Krzysztofa Pendereckiego. Po ukończeniu studiów rozpoczął pracę pedagogiczną w zakresie teorii muzyki. Od 1987 r. jest profesorem kompozycji w Hochschule für Musik w Kolonii. Za swoje utwory kompozytor otrzymał wiele krajowych i międzynarodowych nagród, m. in. I nagrodę na Concours des Jeunes Compositeurs w Fontainebleau (1966), oraz I nagrodę na Konkursie im. G. Fitelberga w Katowicach. Dorobek twórczy Krzysztofa Meyera jest niezwykle bogaty i różnorodny - od utworów solowych, poprzez utwory kameralne aż po symfonie i koncerty z udziałem instrumentów solowych oraz formy wokalno - instrumentalne - jak msza, oratorium, opery. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera Sonatę Breve na fortepian solo. Premierowe wykonanie utworu miało miejsce 11 grudnia 2007 na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Średni czas trwania: 13'. Krzysztof Meyer was born on 11 August 1943 in Cracow and studied composition at the Cracow State Higher School of Music - first with Stanisław Wiechowicz and, after his death, with Krzysztof Penderecki. Since 1987 he has been a professor of composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. The composer has been awarded many prizes for his works, both in Poland and abroad, including first prize at the Competition for Young Composers in Fontainebeau (1966); first prize at the G. Fitelberg Competition in Katowice and more. Krzysztof Meyer's output is unusually rich and varied - ranging from solo and chamber works to symphonies and concertos as well as vocal - instrumental forms such as mass, oratorio and opera. His music is heard at festivals and concerts in Poland and abroad, performed by the most aoutstanding ensembles and soloists, for whom it has often been composed. Oratorium "Mesjasz" Händla powstało w 1741 roku. Dzieło składa się z trzech części: cz. 1 - zapowiedź przyjścia Mesjasza; cz. 2 - opowieść o życiu, śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Mesjasza; cz. 3 - misja zbawienia ludzkości. Oratorium to Händel skomponował w przeciągu dwóch tygodni w podziękowaniu dla Irlandczyków za ich gościnę. Kompozycja została bardzo dobrze przyjęta przez publiczność i zaliczana jest obecnie do najdoskonalszych utworów na przełomie wieków. W prezentowanym wydaniu zawarto oratorium Händla w opracowaniu na solowe głosy wokalne, chór mieszany (SATB) oraz fortepian (wyciąg fortepianowy partii orkiestry). The vocal score of this edition first appeard in 1959, followed in 1965 by the full score, subsequently issued in redeuced format as a 'study score'. Also in 1965 a related work, A Textual and Historical Companion to Handel's Messiah by the present editor was published. This includes extensive discussion of the principal manuscripts together with details of numerous secondary manusctript sources and the earliest pronted editions and a discussion of textual authority.
