Chorały i preludia są najbardziej znaną próbą kompozytorską Walchy. Helmut Walcha was born in Leipzig, Germany, on October 27, 1907; he died in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on August 11, 1991. He was a blind organ virtuoso who specialized in the music of the Dutch and German baroque period; he is most known for his recordings of the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Oratorium "Mesjasz" Händla powstało w 1741 roku. Dzieło składa się z trzech części: cz. 1 - zapowiedź przyjścia Mesjasza; cz. 2 - opowieść o życiu, śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Mesjasza; cz. 3 - misja zbawienia ludzkości. Oratorium to Händel skomponował w przeciągu dwóch tygodni w podziękowaniu dla Irlandczyków za ich gościnę. Kompozycja została bardzo dobrze przyjęta przez publiczność i zaliczana jest obecnie do najdoskonalszych utworów na przełomie wieków. W prezentowanym wydaniu zawarto oratorium Händla w opracowaniu na solowe głosy wokalne, chór mieszany (SATB) oraz fortepian (wyciąg fortepianowy partii orkiestry). The vocal score of this edition first appeard in 1959, followed in 1965 by the full score, subsequently issued in redeuced format as a 'study score'. Also in 1965 a related work, A Textual and Historical Companion to Handel's Messiah by the present editor was published. This includes extensive discussion of the principal manuscripts together with details of numerous secondary manusctript sources and the earliest pronted editions and a discussion of textual authority.
