Celem tych ćwiczeń wokalnych jest nadanie głosu niejakiej gładkości i sprawienie, by był zdolny do swobodnego wykonywania pasaży koloraturowych. Sens stosowania ćwiczeń tego typu przyrównać można do nauki przez pianistów utworów ze ''Szkoły biegłości'' Czernego. Ćwiczenia w zbiorze ponumerowane są kolejno według stopnia trudności. Pierwsze pozycje zawierają typowe, proste ćwiczenia dla początkujących, kolejne stają się coraz bardziej pouczające dla wykonawcy i wymagają swoistego doświadczenia w śpiewie. Giuseppe Concone (1810 - 1861) to włoski organista i pedagog śpiewu. Jego zdaniem w nauce śpiewu niezwykle istotne są pierwsze lekcje. Publikacja "50 Leçons" op. 9 Concone zawiera pięćdziesiąt prostych ćwiczeń wokalnych dla głosu średniego z towarzyszeniem fortepianu. Mają być one wykonywane solmizacją. Celem ćwiczeń jest m. in. nauka poprawnego intonowania dźwięków oraz prawidłowego oddychania podczas śpiewania. Ćwiczenia te są zróżnicowane pod względem tonacji i tempa. Niektóre (np. Andante sostenuto B-dur nr 31) zostały ujęte w formie tematu z wariacjami. Kompozytor dołączył do nich również liczne wskazówki wykonawcze. Giuseppe Concone (born at Turin in 1810, died there in 1861) was organist to the Royal Chapel at Turin, after having resided in Paris till 1848, where he enjoyed a high reputation as a teacher of singing. Giuseppe Concone: "As a general rule our modern Vocalises have a tendency towards perfecting an already advanced musical education, rather than to impart the first lessons which constitute the elementary basis of the vocal art. To this end I have composed 50 lessons for voice lying in the middle compass of the human voice. Their simplicity and breath of style present the double advantage of fixing the voice and of cultivating the tase of the student by habituating him to phrase well and to take his breath correctly".
