Wszystkie rękopisy dzieł Haydna zawartych na kartach tej książki zaginęły - z wyjątkiem jednego - Capriccio. Utwór ten został wykorzystany do publikacji, jednak trzeba zaznaczyć, że jest to wczesna wersja tego utworu i najprawdopodobniej kompozytor nieco ją zmodyfikował przed wydaniem. Haydn's autograph manuscripts of the following planporte pieces have all been lost, with the single exception of the autograph of the Capriccio. We were able to use this manuscript for the textual revision of our edition, altough it actually gives an earlier version of the work, which Haydn presumably revised later for publication. Prezentowany zbiór zawiera 19 arii pochodzących z francuskich oper. Przedstawione kompozycje pochodzą z dorobku wyłącznie francuskich kompozytorów, żyjących na przestrzeni XIX wieku, między innymi: Hectora Berlioza, Giuseppe Verdiego czy J. Masseneta. Prezentacja zawiera krótki wstęp dotyczący każdego z zawartych w niej utworów. Kompozycje zawierają teksty wyłącznie oryginalne - w języku francuskim. Arie wymagają sporych umiejętności od wykonawcy. Utwory zostały zamieszczone w kolejności chronologicznej (według daty urodzin danego kompozytora). As with the ''melodies'' printed in ''The Art of French Song'', the arias in French Operatic Arias for Soprano have been arranged chronologically according to the dates of their composers' births. Inevitably this means that the printed order does not necessarily reflect the sequence in ehich the operas in question were premiered. I make no apology for this, since, altough in a fairly narrowly confined field such as French opera influences between composers were of course at work, I feel we should also consider the extent to which rhose composers were engaged in following their own paths and finding their own solutions.
