Elmore's Contribution To Jazz

Though his electric slide guitar lick on "Dust My Broom" is Elmore James' biggest claim to farne, Elmore, like Muddy Waters, was more than an intluential slide guitarist. He was one of the first to electrify and urbanize Delta blues. As early as 1939, before Muddy made his first recordings for the Ubrary of Congress, Elmore's fuli electric band, with drums and horns, was playing Delta cIubs, dances and theatres. Although he died in '63, Elmore's hard-rocking style captured the attention of u.s. and British rockers such as Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Winter, George Thorogood, Eric CIapton, Paul Butterfield's Blues Band and the Allrnan Brothers, all of whom recorded his tunes.
