An eclectic mix of musical experiences (jazz, classical, and bluegrass guitar, banjo, mandolin, jazz and gospel choirs) combined with a flair for the theatrical may account for his unusual approach, which freely mixes jazz and classical techniques and often incorporates elements of percussion and choreography.
