In these pieces he borrowed the musical form, the manner of composition (use of imitation and thematic development) and the expressive devices ( such as sighing motifs, tha characteristic continuo-writing, the use of the seventh chord of the altered fourth and certain cadences) all from his father, Other characteristics of style in these early compositions however, show that C.P.E.Bach already belonged to a new musical generation, as in the brevity of the thematic motifs and the formation of phrases, the emphasis on ''galant'' melodic material based on the triad and the occasional use a new style of continuo-writing.
