Ludwig van Beethoven napisał sonatę na róg dla znanego europejskiego hornisty, Johanna Punto. Biograf Beethovena, Ferdinand Ries, napisał, że Beethoven odbył premierę z Johanem Punto 18 kwietnia 1800 roku. O fakcie tym dowiadujemy się z recenzji koncertowych i pism. Punto wraz ze swoim przyjacielem Czechem odbywali turnée w Niemczech i Australii. Mozart, Beethoven oraz Czerny napisali specjalnie utwory na róg dedykowane temu znanemu w tym czasie hornisty. The horn Sonata was written for the most famous horn player of Europe in Beethoven's day, Johann Punto. Beethoven promisend to perform the premiere with Punto-and did so, on April 18, 1800, writing the work barley in time for the concert. A "Great Performer" in his day, Punto and Czech countrymen were responsible for bringing the French horn to Germany and Austria. Mozart and other composers wrote works for him and Czerny reported that Punto advised Beethoven on writing for the French horn.
