George Percy Grainger (ur. 1822, zm. 1961) był amerykańsko - australijskim kompozytorem, pianistą i saksofonistą. W 1895 roku rozpoczął studia muzyczne w konserwatorium we Frankfurcie. W latach 1901 - 1914 zamieszkał w Londynie, gdzie szczególną uwagę poświęcił kolekcjonowaniu angielskich pieśni ludowych i komponowaniu utworów w charakterze tamtejszego folkloru. Po wybuchu I wojny światowej powrócił do Stanów Zjednoczonych. Niniejsza publikacja zawiera jeden z najpopularniejszych utworów fortepianowych Graingera, "Country Gardens". Groups of countryside dancers - "teams" of "Morris Men" - decked out with ribbons and jingling bells, still dance the Morris Dance to the accompaniment of such tunes as "Shepherd's Hey" and "Country Gardens" in some parts of rural England. Overhearing a lullaby sung by a teenage servant girl named Lidi DA3sa, he quizzed her about it and noted it down. Romanian Folk Dances remains one of BartA3k 's most popular and enduring works, evoking the folk melodies combined with his own idiosyncratic harmonies and textures.
