Urodził się w Montgomery (Alabama, USA) najprawdopodobniej 17 marca 1919, aczkolwiek jako data jego urodzin podawany jest też rok 1915 lub 1917. Zmarł 15 lutego 1965 w Santa Monica (Kalifornia).
