Charles - Louis Hanon urodził sie 2 lipca 1819 roku we Francji w małym miasteczku Renescure obok Dunkerque. Jego ojciec był nauczycielem muzyki w tamtejszej szkole. W 1846 roku Hanon został organistą i kierownikiem chóru w kościele pod wezwaniem św. Józefa w Boulogne, w mieście leżącym niedaleko od Renescuare. W
1853 roku wyjechał ze swoim bratem i przyjacielem Louisem Legierem do Bolonii. Tam komponował, wydawał swoja muzykę. Skomponował 12 etiud, 6 fantazji. Pisał również hymny, popularne pieśni i książki metodyczne.
W ręce państwa oddajemy publikację, która jest swego rodzaju szkołą gry na fortepianie. Szczególny nacisk w poszczególnych ćwiczeniach kładziony jest na postawę rąk i ćwiczenia poszczególnych palców. Utwory te mają charakter etiud.
