Utwory zostały dedykowane Ignazowi Josephowi Leutgab (lub Leitgab) - przyjacielowi Mozarta - który grał w orkiestrze Arcybiskupa w Salzburgu. There in 1777 he opened a cheese shop, described by Mozart's father as "the size of a snail's shell" but continued to play the horn. That he possessed great skill as a performer is evident from the music Mozart wrote for him, and Dittersdorf lists Leutgeb among the "rare virtuosos" he heard in Vienna. Kolejnym po Allegro de Sonate, wspólnym dziełem braci Henryka i Józefa Wieniawskich jest Grand Duo Polonais, zadedykowane Stanisławowi Moniuszce. Utwór powstał około 1851 roku, podczas wielkiego rosyjskiego tournee dwójki młodych artystów. Fantazja oparta jest na dwóch pieśniach twórcy polskiej opery narodowej - dumce Kozak oraz jednej z najbardziej przejmujących pieśni moniuszkowskich - Maciek. W Finale wykorzystane zostały motywy Poloneza G-dur z popularnej swego czasu rosyjskiej opery Mogiła Askolda Aleksandra Wierstowskiego. Konstrukcja całości jest raczej luźna, a poszczególne ogniwa łączą ze sobą wirtuozowskie kadencje skrzypiec lub fortepianu. Obydwie partie instrumentów potraktowane są równorzędnie, stawiając zarówno przed skrzypkiem, jak i pianistą wysokie wymagania techniczne. Grand Duo Polonais było kompozycją, którą bracia Wieniawscy porywali publiczność w wielu krajach. Wielokrotnie musieli je powtarzać, ulegając żądaniom rozentuzjazmowanych słuchaczy. Dzisiaj utwór ten poszedł niemal zupełnie w zapomnienie - może dlatego, że mało kto potrafi je zagrać tak, jak grali go kongenialni bracia. [A. Cofalik] Allegro de Sonate was followed by Grand Duo Polonais, another joint work by Henryk (Op. 8) and Józef (Op. 5) Wieniawski. Dedicated to Stanisław Moniuszko, the piece was composed c. 1851, during the grand Russian tour of the two young artists. The fantasy is based on two songs by the creator of the Polish national opera - the dumky Cossack and one of Moniuszko's most moving songs - Maciek. Motives from Alesky Wierstowski's Polonaise in G major from the then popular Russian opera Askold's Grave were used in the Finale. The construction of the whole is rather loose and the individual sections are linked with virtuosic cadenzas for violin or piano. The parts for both instruments are treated in a similar way, making high technical demands on both the violinist and the pianist. Grand Duo Polonais was a composition with which the Wieniawski brothers thrilled audiences of many countries. They had to repeat it many times, yielding to the demands of enthusiastic listeners, as was the case during concerts at the Wielki Theatre in Warsaw as well as Poznań and Cracow, among other places. Aranżowanie znanych kompozycji operowych na różne instrumenty jest popularne już od wielu wieków. Niniejsza publikacja jest opracowaniem na fortepian utworu "Barcarolle" Jacquesa Offenbacha, kompozycji pochodzącej z jego opery - "Opowieści Hoffmanna" ("Les Contes d'Hoffmann"). Opera ta napisana została na podstawie opowiadań fantastycznych Ernesta Teodora Amadeusza Hoffmanna. Aranżacja Charlesa T. Griffesa pochodzi z około 1910 roku. W pełni oddaje ona charakter kompozycji Offenbacha. Z powodu gęstej faktury dzieła, w swoim opracowaniu Griffes zastosował m. in. zapis na trzech pięcioliniach. The impulse to create something new from something pre-existing is not rare. Composers have been doing it for centuries. A work based in another composer's creation is often a way to pay homage to that composer. New works based on a composer's own creation often result from a commission or an opportunity for performance. And, sometimes, as perhaps in the case with Griffes' arrangement of Offenbach's "Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour" the composer simply does it for the pleasure of it. Griffes "Belle nuit", dating from ca. 1910, is a charming and sophisticated composition, as a natural and idiomatic in Griffes' piano version as it was for orchestra in Offenbach's original. Ross Lee Finney (1906 - 1997) to amerykański kompozytor, uczeń m. in. Nadii Boulanger, Albana Berga i Rogera Sessionsa. Jego twórczość obejmuje m. in. cztery symfonie, cztery koncerty, oraz osiem kwartetów na różne obsady instrumentów. Utwór "Chamber music" na głos wokalny i fortepian Finney skomponował w 1952 roku do poezji Jamesa Joyce'a. Jest to zbiór trzydziestu sześciu pieśni o różnym charakterze, ściśle uzależnionym od słów Joyce'a. Głos wokalny cechuje prosta melodyka, natomiast w partii fortepianu kompozytor zastosował m. in. ciekawe efekty kolorystyczne (glissanda, szerokie arpeggia, gęste słupy akordowe, długie tryle, tremolanda, gra w skrajnych rejestrach). The tendency has always been to consider "Chaber Music" by James Joyce as a collection of lyrics, not as a single, unified work. Critics write that these poems "seem trivial...exactong the final elegance from tradition," and that "Joyce sings of love in the manner of the Elizabethans and of the poets of the eighteen-nineties", that his "plaintive and cloying little stanzas could only have satisfied George Mmoore's canons of pure poetry." The title "Chamber Music" certailnly suggests a double meaning, and to admit it does no injury to the work. When Tindall writes that in "Chamber Music" "Joyce seems devoted to urination" he is perhaps carrying the double meaning too far.
