Johann Christoph Pachelbel (1653 - 1706) był niemieckim kompozytorem, organistą i nauczycielem muzyki okresu baroku. Do najbardziej znanych, po słynnym kanonie D-dur na troje skrzypiec i basso continuo, należą jego kompozycje organowe. Kilkutomowy zbiór ''Orgelwerke'' zawiera różne utwory organowe Pachelbela, między innymi: 3 przygrywki chorałowe, chorały, preludia, fugi, oraz utwory nieokreślone gatunkowo. Prezentowana część to zbiór dwudziestu utworów opartych na melodii chorałów protestanckich w opracowaniu na organy. Część utworów, które znalazły się w tej publikacji, należą do innych zbiorów, przykładowo 3 preludia chorałowe nr: 7, 16 i 19 pochodzą ze zbioru: ''Osiem Preludiów Chorałowych''.

This edition includes three of the ''Eight Choral Preludes'' viz. No's. 7, 16 and 19. No's. 5 and 6 are fuges based on the opening lines of the chorals, to which they originally served as preludes. No's.10, 14 and 18 are Bicinien, or two-part compositions, which, if they are to be treated effectively, will require two separate manuals for their performance. No's. 9, 11, 13, 15 and 20 are three-part works in which the cantus firmus appears on the pedals. Complete contrast is provided by Choral No. 8 which, having the c. f. in the treble, is treatet in a melismatic style, in which motivic anticipatory imitation prevails in the individual lines of the choral.
